Albert Tucker (artist) - Albert Tucker (December 29, 1914- October 23, 1999) was an Australian artist, pivotal in the development of 20th century Australian Expressionist painting. Tucker is known as a member of the so-called "Heide Circle", a group of leading modern artists and writers that centred on the art patrons John Reed and Sunday Reed, whose home, "Heide", located in Bulleen, near Heidelberg (outside Melbourne) was a haven for the group, and is now a museum of modern Australian art.

Shalva Kikodze - Shalva Kikodze (Georgian: შალვა ქიქოძე) (1894 – 1921) was a Georgian expressionist painter, graphic artist and theatre decorator. Together with Lado Gudiashvili and Davit Kakabadze, he is considered a key figure in Georgian art of the early 20th century.

The Golden Avant-Garde: Idolatry, Commercialism, and Art by Raphael Sassower,

Since the eighteenth century, artists -- especially so-called avant-garde artists -- have played a conflicting role in society. Part of the reason for their complex position, argue Raphael Sassower expressionist artist and Louis Cicotello, is the survival of the culture of idolatry in the modern age.
